HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Melanie, of MW Designs has always had a passion for all things creative.
She began her creative journey from a very young age out of necessity, from sewing for herself, her children and for her home.
She studied interior design and home staging later on in her life to decorate their own Waiheke 1950’s batch.
From making beautiful woollen slipper and boots for six years under the name of SoulSlips NZ , Melanie has now changed her direction to focus on her passion for bag making.
She enjoys making bags that are bold , different and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, using vibrant colours and unique designs. She believes that heads should turn when a woman walks down the street wearing a stunning bag.
As her grandmother always said, “you know a woman by what’s in her bag!”
Melanie lives on Waiheke Island with her husband Peter, their 2 cats Ollie and Cleocatra.
Melanie has 5 grandchildren and 3 grown up sons, she immigrated from South Africa in 1996 and has never looked back embracing New Zealand and becoming a citizen.
